Marshall is two years old. On April 19th, 2015 he was diagnosed with A.L.L. (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia).  A.L.L. is a type of blood cancer that starts in the bone marrow and spreads into the blood stream.  This means that this type of cancer is throughout Marshall's entire body rather than settled into a specific area like other cancers.

Marshall started waking up at night crying in pain.  I would try to soothe his tears but wasn't successful.  I took him to the ER where they immediately took a blood test; 2 hours later he was being admitted to Doernbecher's Children Hospital diagnosed with this disease.  The emotions that filled me were indescribable.  Fear, worry, helplessness are just a few.  Discovering that my beautiful son has contracted a life threatening disease made me feel like I had been hit by a train. Hope soon followed, when the doctors presented a treatment plan.

Marshall started his treatment immediately.  The goal is to get him back to the sweet, fun loving, silly boy that he is.  The treatment plan is expected to last a minimum of 3 years.  He has already been through steroid therapy and various types of chemotherapy. He is the strongest, bravest little boy I've ever had the opportunity to lay eyes on.

Marshall has gone through spinal taps where they administer chemo through the spinal fluid.  He has also had many bone marrow tests with the expectation for them to continue.  I take him to the hospital weekly for continued testing to ensure his white blood cell count and absolute neutrophil count are both good and that he is showing signs of producing healthy bone marrow. Marshall's immune system is compromised due to the leukemia, making him overly and severely susceptible to germs.

I'd love for you to have the opportunity to get to know the little boy that you are helping!  I know you'd love him and he would love to thank you.
